Consider factors such as hours of
work and leisure time and/or limited disposable income.
The decade was
interrupted in 1916, when America declared war against Germany -- World War I
-- a two-year interval. Immigration was another issue.
Hours
of work still hovered in the 60-hours per week range, so "leisure
time" during that era had a limited meaning, but was defined much
differently, say, a decade later, when in 1930, "leisure time" becomes
a national issue.
